Great new ideas and activities that students will love!
– 5th Grade Teacher, OR
Did you know that Maria Agnesi solved problems in her sleep? You might be surprised to learn that Albert Einstein didn’t do very well in school, or that Benjamin Banneker helped survey Washington, D.C. before the city was built. When students discover how mathematicians from many different countries became fascinated with mathematics and achieved greatness in spite of the odds against them, they are more likely to learn and remember mathematics themselves.
This course provides all the materials teachers need to introduce stories about mathematicians as well as problems and activities representing their work. Mathematical topics are identified with each story, facilitating the integration of the human dimension into the regular curriculum. Designed for teachers of grades 3-12, this course addresses the Common Core Standards for Mathematics and may be completed with or without students. Texts also used for Mat 912. Ask instructor about refund.
